Introduction to the Course

Meteorology is a vast branch of science that studies the physical phenomena in the earth’s atmosphere, the troposphere. These phenomena contribute to the determination of atmospheric weather.

The elements to be studied in understanding the processes leading to specific climatic conditions take place are:

  • Atmospheric pressure,
  • Air temperature,
  • Atmospheric humidity,

they will lead us to understand wind, currents and tides, and the basic meteorological phenomena.

In the maritime field, the climate and meteorological phenomena are critical in influencing navigation & manoeuvring. For this reason, we will conclude the course with examples of actual manoeuvres. After studying the basics of meteorology and its most important phenomena, we will see how these actions lead to practice and how to exploit or counter them when we can’t avoid them.
